Wi Fi For Dummies How To Use It

A piece of hardware that help you connecting to the world anywhere.

IF you are newbie in wireless Internet connection Wi-Fi.This post should answered the following questions:
  • What is wifi?
  • How does wifi work?
  • Setup Wifi for Nerds and Techies?
  • Wifi for Dummies?
  • How to get wifi?
Wifi is a wireless Internet connection .It is a wireless networking technology that user connect to the internet without the need of wire.WIFI operating under 802.11 standard.

We can use WIFI t access to the internet from cell phone with WIFI features(smart phone),PDA, laptop, home computer etc..

Things you need to Know About Wifi.
There are few equipment required in order to connect to internet wirelessly.N
  1. Network Interface Card, or NIC.And a
  2. Wireless router.
If you are traveling outdoor,(which mean outside your house) You only need  a  Network Interface Card to connect to the internet from the places that has WIFI connection.Note that not all places has the WIFI connection.

In a Wi-Fi network, computer or any devices(like i mentioned on last paragraph) will need a wifi network cards connect wirelessly to a wireless router. The router should be connected to the Internet via Internet Service Provider or ISP for short.

The router and network card are just functioning as a modem. The coverage area of a wireless router depends on the brands you bought, typically within 200 feet or so (about 61 meters) Any computer or device can access to or connect to the Internet within this rage. For better transfer rates,we recommended distances of 100 feet (30.5 meters).

Anyway the technology will extend range while boosting data transfer rates. Most new laptops nowadays come equipped with internal wireless networking cards. Currently ,those who need larger coverage rage ,you can use wireless signal boosters that extend the range of a wireless network.

You can either use you own router or go to the public places that stated has WIFI available.Like restaurant ,collage, pub, etc. If you are planing to use wi-fi creating a wireless network on your home, ,network cards are a necessity for each computer.

How to Use Wifi
If you use your own router .Your router should be configured according to the directions specified by your ISP. Part of the configuration would include the device’s password that you can set on your own. You should also setup your log-in name and password if you have a PPPoE Internet connection.
You may have to turn off SID Transmission to ensure that your Wifi signal doesn’t wander off to any other Wifi device. You should also identify your network’s name as well. Remember to use some sort of signal encryption to avoid getting your network hacked. This is an important step to take to ensure security of your network.
You can use WEP encryption in order to add protection to your network. With this type of encryption, all devices that will request Internet access should provide a code. Only the devices that are able to log in with the said code can be granted any access into the network and on the Internet.
Tips on How to Use Wifi
You might sometimes experience some speed issues with regard to your connection. The first place to look would be the settings of your router. You can adjust the connection speed within your wireless network by changing some settings on your router.

Another factor to consider is the signal strength received by each computer or device connecting to your wireless network. You may have to reposition some devices to get a better signal.
If you’re still experiencing slow speeds in spite of connection adjustments on the router or on your wireless devices, you may have to call your ISP to resolve such an issue. Learning how to use Wifi will require some time. You will learn how to solve various issues along the way as you gain experience.

Wireless Broadband Basics Walk through

Wireless Broadband Basics Walk through.
What is the alternative for ADSL broadband?
What is Wireless Broadband ?
Wireless broadband is a general term used for the technology that is able to gain access to the INTERNET wirelessly, and at high bandwidth speeds.
What is the technology behind wireless broadband services?
Wireless broadband is available on virtually any digital device, so long as it has the proper connectivity hardware. Such hardware can easily be attached to most PDAs and laptop computers.

For now we have 3 options.(In some country ,it might be more.)

1.3G

2.Wi-Fi

3.Wimax

What is 3G?

The term 3G refers to the third generation of mobile phone standards as set by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). 3G technologies allow mobile operators to offer more options to their users, such options include mobile broadband. As a technology, 3G facilitates devices such as mobile phones and mobile dongles to deliver broadband speed internet.

Most new top of the range mobile phones are 3G enabled, making it easy to check emails and browse the web on the go.These technologies enable mobile broadband users to access of up to 7.2Mb speed downloads and uploads with speeds of up to 1.7Mb via a mobile dongle, USB modem or data card which they plug into the USB port of their laptop or PC.
What is Wi_Fi?

One of the most popular and well known wireless technology standards is Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity), which allows users to access the internet over a wireless Local Area Network. The speed and range of Wi-Fi, however, is severely limited. There is another wireless connectivity standard, called Wimax , which is considerably more advanced..

What is WiMAX?
WiMAX is a protocol by which signals are sent to wireless broadband users. A WiMAX base station can theoretically beam a signal as far as 50km (31 miles), meaning that a single station could potentially cover an entire city (unlike Wi-Fi, which is only available in "hotspots").The cons for WiMAX is the base stations are very expensive to build, and arent cost effective in less densely populated areas. Because of this limitation, WiMAX technology is not yet available in most non-urban regions.

The Further of Wireless Broadband technology.
Even though WiMAX has been a major technological achievement, wireless broadband certainly doesn't stop there. There are a number of other cutting edge wireless protocols currently in development. The most notable of these is a new protocol called xMax, which is similar to WiMAX, but a lot more efficient. It can cover a broader range at a lower cost, by piggybacking on radio frequencies.

Although xMax is not yet available to the public, it will most likely be launched within the next couple of years.3G is one of the most popular options now. With a laptop with built-in 3G broadband you get the best of both worlds. Whether you're in the back of a cab or waiting at the airport, a pre-installed 3G broadband gives you fast, secure access.

P/s:Local surfer,If you live in Klang Valley and you are not satisfied with Streamyx ADSL broadband service because they just didn't provided affection service to user ,you can go P1 w1max Wireless or the latest YES 4G mobile broadband
